My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!

Porno Holocaust
Porno Holocaust , despite how it may sound, has no relation whatsoever to Ruggero Deodato's gut munching masterpiece of nastiness, Cannibal Holocaust . What it is, essentially, is a series of fuck scenes linked together by a shoestring of a plot courtesy of Italian sex and gore master, Joe D'Amato (a.k.a. Arisitde Massaccesi of Beyond The Darkness ) with some uncredited assistance from the uber-talented Bruno Mattei ( Hell Of The Living Dead ).
The plot? Ha. I'm glad you asked. A few people who are supposedly scientists (as well as Mark Shannon from D'Amato's later attempt at a 'gorno', Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead and here the captain of the boat that gets everyone to the island), head off to a remote island to have sex with each other and some of the locals. Oh, and they're supposed to be looking into some radioactive mutations as well, but that's pretty much irrelevant. What's important is that they're going to get it on.
They arrive, and soon after the copulation begins, a big black guy with a giant cock and sporting some truly terrible latex zombie make up starts running around getting up to no good. First he forces his schlong down a poor woman's throat, and then he humps a girl after clocking her outside the head (Mark Shannon later finds her dead, blood oozing from her groin).
Black mutant zombie cock man kidnaps one of the women scientists, played by the way too cute Annj Goren (the only exceptionally good looking woman in the cast), and seeing as all the male scientists have been killed, it's up to Mr. Shannon to save the day, and get a piece of tail or two while he's at it.
The first hour or so of the movie is a full on straight ahead porn film. Not a horrific element in sight (unless you count a few of the more unusual looking cast members), we lay witness to a threesome, some medium quality lesbian muff diving and finger bang fun, and a straight scene or two. Once we get to the island, we're more or less numb to it all and the teeny tiny smatterings of bad gore that D'Amato hopes to horrify us with seem tame and rather unnecessary. Once you've seen some warty balls slapping against an ass sorely in need of a Brazilian wax, red paint on someone trying to stand really still with his eyes closed while the camera zooms slowly away to the tune of a rather humorous disco score just isn't all that frightening anymore.
As a pornographic film, while quite explicit, Porno Holocaust sucks. As a horror film, Porno Holocaust sucks even more. But as a curiosity item, it's interesting and the movie does contain some bizarro moments of unintentional hilarity if you can get past the sex scenes that bombard you every five minutes or so. The explicit content isn't so much arousing as it is… curious and the tepid smatterings of blood and guts here and there make it even more so.
D'Amato would go on to hone his horror/porn hybrid skills later on with Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead , which actually does have some interesting horror elements to it (as well as the presence of Laura Gemser), but here he seems to be throwing ideas around and seeing what sticks. The lack of a budget for anything even remotely resembling good make up effects doesn't help matters any (the zombie mutant guy made me laugh every time he came on screen... no pun intended). One has to wonder what the Anthropophagous himself, George Eastman (who also has a small starring role in the film and who co-wrote this thing) was thinking when he put pen to paper for this one.
In short, this is worth seeing mainly to tell people you've seen it and to giggle at it. Don't expect to be scared, and don't expect to be aroused much either. Expect to snicker behind your hand at bad make up, a plethora of body hair, and a score that sounds like it was culled from a European nightclub dance floor from the era.
This is a really bad movie.
The anamorphic 1.85.1 widescreen transfer is quite nice, especially by old exploitation movie standards. There's some mild print damage that appears in the form of some specks on the print and there is some moderate grain in a couple of scenes but the black levels stay strong throughout and the colors look quite good as well. There's a pretty decent level of detail in both the foreground and the background of the image and skin tones, aside from those in poor make up, look pretty healthy and human.
The Dolby Digital Italian language mono mix is fine without any serious problems. There are a few scenes that sound a little on the flat side and one or two noticeable instances of mild background hiss but other than that, it gets the job done. The dialogue is well balanced against the funky score and the sound effects come through nicely. The optional English subtitles are clean, clear, easy to read and free of any typographical errors. This one isn't really going to wow you or make you want to show off your surround sound setup, but in the end it all works out nicely.
Aside from an all too brief still gallery, Media Blasters has included trailers for Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead , Yellow Emanuelle , SS Hell Camp and Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals as well as a trailer for the feature itself. In addition, there's a twelve minute on camera interview with George Eastman in which he his work with D'Amato and how and why they came up with the ideas for this film in the first place. The interview is conducted in Italian with English subtitles.
Media Blasters/Exploitation Digital have done this title better than it deserves. It looks great, it sounds fine, and the George Eastman interview was a nice, unexpected extra feature that does lend a little bit of insight into why this movie exists in the first place. While Porno Holocaust is an interesting curiosity item and it does have some unintentionally hilarious moments, it's neither a good porno film nor a good holocaust film. Rent it if you're looking for something off the wall or really, really dumb.

Will we ever stock a record with a better title than Porno Holocaust? Probably not, but let’s skip this seedy sexploitation film synopsis and see what the music is all about. Well, as you might have imagined, it’s actually pretty damn evocative of the X rated visuals that accompany it. Outrageously flamboyant moog funk with the occasional creepy horror synth motif thrown in and a ton of budget sounding boogie cuts to boot. Oh and the sleeve is absolutely ridiculous too. Totally different affair to the recent Werewolf Woman OST that Death Waltz did, but the variety is part of their charm.

Holocaust film reveals long-hushed child sex abuseAiring on eve of holocaust remembrance day, documentary shines light on a topic historians have largely avoided. Renee Ghert-Zand is a reporter and feature writer for The Times of Israel. ![]() A documentary film premiering Wednesday evening on Israeli television sheds light on a dark corner of what is already the blackest of historical events. “Screaming Silence,” which will be broadcast on the eve of Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day, is about a topic which few, even World War II scholars, have dared to broach in public before: sexual abuse of children during the Holocaust. For the first time, Holocaust survivors who were raped or sexually abused as children and teens in the ghettos and concentration and labor camps speak on camera about what happened to them and how this sexual violence has scarred their lives over the 70 years since the war ended. These individuals kept the sexual abuse they experienced a secret from everyone, including their spouses, children and grandchildren—who will learn for the first time about what happened to their loved ones from this film. Ronnie Sarnat devoted six years to producing “Screaming Silence.” She was determined to deal with a difficult subject that others have refused to research and speak about. “The Holocaust research establishment doesn’t think that the Holocaust and sex go together,” she asserts. “But who decides what is permitted and what is not?” Professor Gideon Greif, chief historian at Shem Olam: The Holocaust & Faith Institute for Education and Research and an expert on Auschwitz, concurs that indeed, there has been a tendency among Holocaust scholars not to touch upon the subject of sexual abuse of children. ‘There has been a lack of information about this topic because of a desire among those who study the Holocaust not to hurt the dignity of the victims’ “Yad Vashem, for instance, has many testimonies that include accounts of rape and sexual abuse, but historians have been reluctant to deal with this. This film is really the first time that the subject is being dealt with so openly,” he says. It took Sarnat a significant amount of time to locate survivors who were raped or sexually abused as children or teenagers. Once she found them, they had to decide they were ready to reveal publicly secrets they had buried so deeply and for so long out of shame and a paralyzing fear of being rejected by their children if the truth were known. One elderly man in the film talks about how his son was such a “macho Israeli” that he felt he could never reveal to him what had happened. “How could I let him think of his father as a ‘one of those Jews who went to the slaughter like sheep’?” he says. ![]() Sarnat and her creative team decided to make the film using only the first-person testimonies of the survivors. There is no third-person narration and there are no talking heads providing historical context or psychological analysis. “The witnesses wrote their own script, so to speak, and determined the limits of what they would or would not say on camera,” the producer says. She believes this technique elevates the film beyond a horrific retelling of events to a more complex work in which the issue of rape is not necessarily more important than the question of whether a person should or should not tell a deeply held dark secret before he or she dies. These survivors—both men and women—describe having been sexually abused, raped, gang raped or witnesses to prostitution at a young age For instance, one man, who was raped by a German soldier as a 13-year-old boy in Tunisia, has struggled his whole life with his sexual identity. How could he be a man who goes out with women if he was in the position of being one, he asks. One of the women speaks of how she never feels at ease and is always looking over her shoulder. She says she has never been able to have a sexual relationship. All she says about the fact that she has children and grandchildren is that “their father was a very cruel man.” The man who was afraid of telling his “macho” son about his experiences in Auschwitz recounts what happened to him as a “piepel.” According to Sarnat, no one is sure what the origin of the term is, but everyone in the camps knew what one was: A piepel was a pre-adolescent or young adolescent boy who was forced to serve one of the kapos (prisoner functionaries, who were Jewish or non-Jewish) in a concentration or labor camp. The boy was used to service all the kapo’s needs—including sexual ones. (Elie Wiesel included a scene with a piepel in his seminal Holocaust memoir “Night,” and the controversial Israeli Holocaust survivor writer Yehiel Dinur, also known by the pen name Ka-Tsetnik, wrote a novel titled “They Called Me Piepel” in 1961.) ![]() The man who was a piepel tells about how, as a boy in Auschwitz, he was raped by an especially cruel kapo who forced bread into his mouth to shut him up during the rape. The man recalls how he was starving and readily ate the bread, and then says that he isn’t completely comfortable calling what happened to him rape because he willingly ate the bread. “Child victims of rape are not like adult victims of rape,” says Sarnat. “They think it must be a punishment for what they have done.” The man’s reaction is understandable from a psychological perspective, but Greif warns that it is imperative to always remember that the perpetrators, the Germans and their accomplices—and not the Jewish victims—were to blame. …there is no way to really know how extensive this phenomenon was for the simple reason that the victims…never spoke about what had happened to them “The sexual abuse that did occur was part of the Nazis’ drive to humiliate Jews, but there was no systematic approach to this,” he says. Indeed, there is no way to really know how extensive this phenomenon was for the simple reason that the victims—like the ones in the film—never spoke about what had happened to them. But Sarnat believes that if others go beyond the Holocaust research establishment as she has and do their own digging, they will find out more and more about this subject. “Yad Vashem and the Germans both say that there were no Jewish girls used as prostitutes to service the Nazis. But I have testimonies that Jewish girls did work in bordellos in the camps,” she says. “They must have changed their names so the Germans wouldn’t know they were Jewish.” Otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to avoid the gas chambers and crematoria by being sex slaves. “Screaming Silence” will air on Israel Channel 1 on April 15 at 10:20 p.m. The writer has been asked not to use the names of the people in the film or to identify them in the photos out of respect for the fact that they have not yet revealed their secret to their families. Erotic Nights of the Living Dead ( Italian : Le notti erotiche dei morti viventi ) is a 1980 Italian erotic horror film filmed in and around Santo Domingo and written and directed by Joe D'Amato . It has received mixed to negative reviews. Synopsis [ edit ]On his second visit to the Dominican Republic , John Wilson, a land developer for a foreign company planning to build a hotel, leases a tropical island from the government, which - unbeknownst to him - carries a voodoo curse. He plans to go there to survey the land. At night, he has sex in his hotel room with two prostitutes, whom he scares away by mentioning the name Cat Island. In the hall, he meets Fiona, a socialite who - as she tells him - has just left her elderly lover and his yacht. He performs cunnilingus on her. Sea captain Larry O'Hara spends the same night on his skipper, having sex with Liz, the local nightclub owner. Just as they are about to leave, Liz spots a zombie walking in the shallow water of the port, his hand outstretched towards them. O’Hara kills him with a grappling iron. Later in the morgue, the doctor examines the maggot-ridden corpse, which suddenly grabs him, kills him with a gory bite in the neck, and walks away. The next day, Wilson hires O’Hara to take him and Fiona for the trip to the island. O’Hara tells him about the legend surrounding the island, about zombies led by a cat. At night, in Liz's empty nightclub, Liz gets on stage and dances for O’Hara, uncorking a bottle of champagne with her vagina. In his room with Fiona, Wilson suddenly feels someone's unseen presence. It is Luna's, who sits on the island graveyard and establishes contact with him, scratching her hand until her green blood shows. O'Hara spots a black cat at the nightclub, which hisses and leaves. The group sails to the island the next day, where they are greeted by Luna and a shaman . They are warned to leave as the island is the reported home to zombies of dead natives. But Luna, who might be a ghost , takes a liking to Larry. Cast [ edit ]
Production [ edit ]Erotic Nights of the Living Dead was filmed at the same time as Porno Holocaust in Santo Domingo with the same cast. [1] Both films involve a group of foreigners who find an island, have sex, and then are killed off one by one. [1] Release [ edit ]Theatrical [ edit ]. Erotic Nights of the Living Dead was released in 1980 and was not a large success. [1] As D'Amato remarked in an interview, " Le notti erotiche dei morti viventi was a total fiasco. I had endeavored to mingle my two favorite genres, tending more toward the erotic side in this case, but the film was rejected by the public." [2] Home media [ edit ]On 15 June 2018, the film was released on blu-ray by Code Red DVD in its English dubbed hardcore version. [3] [4] Reception [ edit ]In 2005, Louis Paul wrote in a chapter devoted to D'Amato that the film "is pure cinema horror trash, but watchable nonetheless. In the history of the Italian horror film there is no other feature film quite like it." [5] In 2011, Danny Shipka, author of Perverse Titillation: The Exploitation Cinema of Italy, Spain and France, 1960-1980 gave both Porno Holocaust and Erotic Nights of the Living Dead a negative review, criticising the acting, gore effects and sex scenes , and stated that the merging of "hard-core sex and extreme violence is disturbing" [1] The book Zombie Movies: The Ultimate Guide describes the film as "one of the worst if not the worst Italian zombie movie ever made". Review by Fred BeldinThough it seems natural for filmmakers to combine the two most exploitable elements on their palette, it's very difficult to strike a balance when mixing hardcore pornography and graphic violence. Spend too much time on the sex and the gorehounds get restless, splash too much blood around, and the majority of the adult film audience will run screaming for the exit. Italian smut maker Joe D'Amato based his career on pictures that usually focused on one extreme or the other, though in this desperate bid for high-velocity exploitation he definitely ended up with more "Porno" than "Holocaust." Because of its blunt title and relative rarity, Porno Holocaust has gained legendary status amongst horror and exploitation fans, though only with those who haven't seen it yet. The first two thirds of the film's running time are spent following the young, attractive scientists as they run on sandy beaches, luxuriating in the warmth and the water (depending on which version is obtained, the amount of explicitness varies, though a full hardcore print does exist). For this portion, Porno Holocaust is a fairly typical foreign sex film, with airheaded disco muzak on the soundtrack and awkwardly translated dialogue like, "Have you noticed I'm as nervous as an Olympic athlete?" The dreaded radioactive monster is a disappointment when he finally appears, being nothing more than a well-endowed actor with a few lumps of putty on his face and tattered clothes. The remainder of the film isn't nearly as brutal as some other entries in D'Amato 's lengthy resumé (he's also tackled cannibals, zombies, and Caligula), and the gore effects will be unconvincing to hardened devotees. Though Porno Holocaust boasts one of the most outlandish titles of all time, don't expect anything more than a standard Euro skin flick with a climax that's slightly stranger than most.

Porno Holocaust, from the legendarily awful Italian grindhouse director Joe D'Amato (Anthropophagous, Ator the Invincible, etc.), is as far as I know the first serious attempt at a gorenography film--a subgenre that has been something of a holy grail for low-budget film directors.
